
Evan Wessel joins The Wessel Group after serving as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Transportation. In this role, Evan led the Department of Transportation's engagement with State, Local, and Tribal governments and served as a principal advisor to the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and senior staff on policy matters affecting state and local governments. Evan joined the U.S. Department of Transportation after serving as a Senior Advisor for Intergovernmental Affairs in the White House where he led engagement with local elected officials.
Prior to his appointment, Evan served as Deputy Director at the Democratic Mayors Association. Previously, Evan was the Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs Director for Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign. Prior to that, he worked as the National Outreach Director and Policy Advisor for United for Infrastructure, a coalition of over 500 organizations led by the US Chamber of Commerce and the AFL-CIO. He also worked as the City Engagement Director for Accelerator for America, a nonprofit, nonpartisan "Do tank" that delivers solutions, connections, and resources to mayors and other local leaders working to create greater economic mobility in underserved communities.
Evan Wessel served in the Obama-Biden Administration in the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Labor. He graduated from the University of Delaware and shortly after interned in then Vice President Biden’s Office of Legislative Affairs.
